It's back to normal, as far as holiday celebrating, and Portland has a full schedule of stuff to do in the next six weeks.

It began with "Elf The Musical" being staged in Lake Oswego, as well as "It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play" staging at The Armory.

Original musical

Broadway Rose's "A Very Merry PDX-mas" holiday revue combines classic carols, holiday pop songs and offbeat material. Performances are 7:30 p.m. Thursdays-Sundays, with 2 p.m. weekend matinees, Wednesday, Nov. 23, through Dec. 22 at Broadway Rose New Stage, 12850 S.W. Grant Ave., Tigard.

The show: A charming exploration of seasonal traditions and how the holidays continue to enchant us, inspire us, and drive us to the brink of insanity. Original songs include "PDX-mas," "Carol Of The Fans," "Green Christmas" and "The Re-Gifter's Lament."

Classic play

Portland Playhouse puts on a great "A Christmas Carol" each year, as the spirits guide Scrooge through a transformative journey toward love. It opens Friday, Nov. 25 and shows through Dec. 30.

People tree

Arguably one of Portland's best holiday events, "Singing Christmas Tree" features some 300 singers and holiday music, dancing Santas and cinematic nativity, and passing on the message of peace, joy, hope and love. It stages Nov. 26-Dec. 4 at Sunset Presbyterian Church, 14986 N.W. Cornell Road.

'Enchanted Toyshop'

The students and professionals of The Portland Ballet always put on entertaining shows. Its show "The Enchanted Toyshop" by John Clifford returns, 1 and 4 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, Nov. 26-27 at Lincoln Performance Hall, 1620 S.W. Park Ave.

Lauren Lane, TPB's associate artistic director, who performed in the original "Toyshop" in 2003, will reprise her role as Amelie, which she performed as a student in 2006 and 2007. Nick Le-Jurica, a former student who graduated from Juilliard and danced professionally in Salt Lake City, also performs, as a Cossack dancer.

The story: Two children are left behind in a toyshop, and the Blue Fairy brings to life a parade of dancing dolls to entertain the guests. Pinocchio, playing cards and poodles are all part of the fast-paced fun.

Clifford, an artistic adviser for The Portland Ballet who regularly works with its students, reorganized and added characters to the 1919 ballet that was originally choreographed by Leonide Massine and premiered by Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. A Balanchine protégé and founder of Los Angeles Ballet, Clifford stages Balanchine ballets and sets his own choreography on companies around the world.

"I have a lot of humor in it," Clifford said. "The dancing is very sophisticated. There are about five or six roles that are high level."

Harrison in Beaverton

Stay tuned for more information about Michael Allen Harrison's "Christmas at The Old Church" in December. But, he brings the show — he and singer Julianne Johnson and their lineup of talented singers/musicians — to Patricia Reser Center for the Arts, 12625 S.W. Crescent St. in Beaverton, 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26.

Storm's holiday

Portland loves Storm Large, and the star singer/performer returns to the stage once again with her wicked charm and stunning vocals for "Storm Large Holiday Ordeal," a night of music, gags, gifts and special guests, 8 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, Nov. 26-27, at Aladdin Theater, 3017 S.E. Milwaukie Ave.

Sounds brassy

"A Canadian Brass Christmas," 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27 at Newmark Theatre, 1111 S.W. Broadway, features the popular brass ensemble Canadian Brass.

Powerful music

Trans-Siberian Orchestra makes Portland an annual stop during the holidays, and this year it's 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28, at Moda Center. The "Ghost of Christmas Eve" show will feature the group's fantastic light show and powerful sound, and surely a playing of the epic "Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24," as well as the likes of "O'Come All Ye Faithful," "Good King Joy" and "Promises to Keep."
