Paul Middendorp
We are sad to announce the passing of Paul Middendorp at his home in Damascus, Oregon. He died at age 84 on Friday, November 4, 2022. Paul was born to John and Jane Middendorp (Haapala) on January 2, 1938, in Longview, Washington, and he grew up in Quincy, Oregon. Paul graduated from Clatskanie High School in 1956, where he met his high school sweetheart Lorena Edmonds, and the two married on September 13, 1958. He then graduated from Portland State College in June 1963. Daughters Lori and Renee were born in 1961 and 1964. After graduation, Paul began his career as a teacher, teaching for Rockwood School District, Harold Oliver Middle School, and Centennial Middle School, where he also coached basketball. Paul retired in 1993. After retirement, Paul delivered for Meals on Wheels with his friend Bill Rowe until March 2020. Paul will long be remembered for his love for Lorena, good-natured humor, woodworking skills, sweet tooth, and time spent cycling and completing puzzles. Paul was preceded in death by his parents John and Jane, and he is survived by his wife Lorena; daughters Lori (Chris) and Renee (Rick); grandchildren Nathan (Maricela), MacKenzie (Lane), Lauren, Danica (Stephen), Michael, and Catherine (Chris); and great-grandchild Mateo. We will forever miss Paul and know that he has many great bike rides ahead of him. Thank you to the hospice team and personal caregivers for their care and compassion during his final days. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Meals on Wheels.
