Ray Dean Mayfield
Ray Mayfield died on November 5, 2022 at his home in Sun City, CA. A resident of Southern California since 1980 Ray was born in Wichita, KS in 1936 from parents Rufus Eugene (Dean) Mayfield and Juanita (Uhl) Mayfield. Ray also had a younger brother Larry. The family moved to Sherwood, OR when Ray and Larry were toddlers.
Ray Mayfield graduated from Portland State University in 1964. Ray loved rodeo and participated many times winning The Pendleton Round up Wild Horse race and participated in the St. Paul Rodeo many times with his brother Larry. Ray also like to participate in steer wrestling events in rodeos throughout Oregon and Washington and enjoyed team roping with his son Mike.
Ray also enjoyed skiing when he was younger and enjoyed golf later in life. He lived on a golf course where he continued hitting balls behind his residence recently.
Ray was a sheriff, worked at a juvenile detention center, held various management positions in Portland but for most of his life he sold western saddles and tack and enjoyed visiting with friends in the industry throughout western stores in OR, WA, ID and CA. Ray also was in the US Army Heavy Weapons Infantry division 1955 through 1957 and stationed in Germany. In recent years Ray loved going back to Germany with friends and he had many friends in Germany that would visit him in California as well.
Ray is survived by his son Mike; and his grandchildren Kai and Kori Mayfield.
