Sherwood improves to 7-3 for the season going into Three Rivers League action

BEND — The Sherwood High School boys basketball team ventured over to Bend over the holiday break and came back with three victories.

The Bowmen went 3-0 at the Les Schwab Holiday Oregon Hoopfest, held last Thursday through Saturday at Mountain View and Summit high schools.

Sherwood opened play at the tournament last Thursday by scoring an 80-46 win over Putnam in a game played at Mountain View.

Senior Owen Grubbe led the Bowmen with 15 points in the win. Senior Nick Koronko added 12 points.

On Friday, the Bowmen ran to a 75-56 victory against Bend in a game played at Summit.

Senior Jace Sucher led a balanced Sherwood scoring attack in that game with 13 points. Koronko and senior Billy Hale each added 11 points and Grubbe scored 10.

Sherwood finished play at the tourney on Saturday by scoring a 59-55 win over Glencoe in a game played at Summit.

Grubbe paced the Bowmen in that game with 15 points and junior Braden Thorn added eight points.

With the three tourney victories, Sherwood upped its season record to 7-3.

The Bowmen were scheduled to host Canby in a Three Rivers League opener on Wednesday. Results of that game weren't available when the Times went to press.

Sherwood will be back in action on Friday, when it hosts Tigard in a league game starting at 7 p.m. at Sherwood High School. On Tuesday, the Bowmen will be home to face Lakeridge in a 7:15 p.m. league contest.
