Sports Page hosts Karaoke-A-Thon benefit

Event raises funds for Team Dominick's Walk Now for Autism Speaks

It’s time to enjoy a night of singing for a good cause.

Twenty singers are signed up for a special Karaoke-A-Thon Saturday night from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday at The Sports Page, 8590 S.W. Hall Blvd., in Beaverton.

The event serves as a fundraiser for Team Dominick’s “Walk Now for Autism Speaks.”

Participants have been collecting pledges from friends, family and co-workers for each song they will sing in honor of emcee Chris Johnsen’s 10-year-old son Dominick, a Barnes Elementary School fourth-grader who was diagnosed at age 4 with autism.

Johnsen, who is also known as “Cable-guy Chris,” will also take the mic that night to belt out songs.

Each individual will get the opportunity to sing about 10 times.

The audience is also encouraged to get into the action. Anyone in the crowd can donate $5 and make any singer sing a song of their choice. Called a “suicide song” pledge, if a singer was all set to sing “Sweet Home Alabama,” and a lady in the audience tosses in $5 to hear “Hit Me Baby One More Time,” the singer on deck will have to sing that song. The night will also feature a “Roulette Round” with song titles on a spinning wheel. Singers will have an option to spin and sing the song they land on, donate $2 and spin again, or pay $5 and sing a selection of their choice.

There will also be a “Same Song Round,” where every singer in the rotation will sing the same song. Three judges will be selected and choose the best performance of the round. Bragging rights and a prize pack will be awarded to the winner.

To encourage crowd participation, folks can donate $2 to perform at the end of the current rotation, $5 to be within three songs, $10 to sing the next song, and $20 to join the rotation for the evening.
