The Good Neighbor Family Pantry has been providing produce and other food items to people in need for four years.
On Saturday, Sept. 16, the pantry is asking for some help from the public to support its mission. It will set up a petting zoo from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Southwest Church of Christ in Tigard, 9725 S.W. Durham Road.
Baby animals in the petting zoo will include chickens, ducks, goats, pigs and rabbits. The petting zoo is "totally family-friendly," according to the pantry, so young children and adults alike are welcome to pet and snuggle the animals.
There will also be food, including a full barbecue, cotton candy, popcorn and farm-fresh vegetables, available for purchase, with all proceeds going to the food pantry, according to the Facebook page for the event.
Attendees are asked to contribute a $5 donation per person or $10 per family.
The Good Neighbor Family Pantry is based at Heart 2 Heart Farms, located at 21555 S.W. Hells Canyon Road south of Sherwood.
The produce the pantry provides for the hungry is described on its website as "salvage" picked up from a distributor. The pantry is in regular need of volunteers, and volunteers get first pick of the available food items.
