World premiere of Oregon wolf documentary to be a howling success

Bounty hunters killed the last California grey wolf in 1924.

The last time Oregon compensated a wolf hunter was in 1947. One wolf, OR-7, left his pack in Oregon and travelled 1,200 miles to California, becoming the first wolf in that state in almost a century.

Oregon filmmaker Clemens Schenk documented OR-7’s travels, and the film’s world premiere will take place on Sunday, May 25. Find tickets here.

“OR-7: The Journey” will play at the Hollywood Theatre, 4122 N.E. Sandy Blvd. at 4:30 p.m. Check out the trailer.

The Wild Peace Alliance, a national conservation nonprofit, Wild Peace Alliance expedition crew is retracing OR-7’s path this May by foot and by mountain bike to raise awareness for wolf protection.

“The recovery of wolves ultimately depends on people,” says Galeo Saintz of the Wild Peace Alliance comments. “As endangered species, wolves are currently protected by law, but without the support of people who understand what it takes to coexist, wolves will remain at risk.”
