Activists to rally support for EPA regulation of coal plant emissions

Environment Oregon kicked off a two-day campaign on Wednesday to support the Environmental Protection Agency’s bid to regulate carbon emissions from coal and other power plants.

The group chose Wednesday, Jan. 22, because that's the day the EPA commenced a 60-day comment period to solicit input on its proposed standards for carbon emissions at new power plants.

After a kickoff press conference Wednesday morning, the group planned to have canvassers fan out through Portland, Ashland and Eugene to gather public comments and promote stepped-up federal regulation of coal plants,which Environment Oregon calls a “historic action on global warming.”
