Trio of golfers joins 'Hole-in-One Club'
Summerfield golfers all hit the jackpot on No. 9
Three members of the Summerfield Women's Golf Club have joined the prestigious Hole in One Club with all scoring aces on the ninth hole over the past few months.
Jane Brown got her first hole in one Dec. 16, 2013, which was the day after her birthday.
"We were playing in a scramble format, and after I hit, the other players said they couldn't see where it went," she said. "It just disappeared.
But one said, 'I think you're in the hole.' When we walked up, it was in there. I was elated. It's always just chance. It was nice to get one.
"It was a cool day, but we had some good weather. That hole is 82 yards and over the water, and we all hit over it. I had a good score. It was really nice, really fun."
Jane moved to Summerfield in the fall of 2003 and said she used to golf at both Sandelie Golf Course and the Lake Oswego Public Golf Course, where she was president of the ladies' group.
Marilyn Launder got her first hole in one on a regular women's play day on Jan. 16, also on No. 9.
"I was just hoping to get the ball over the water," she said. "The ball went up in the air, squiggled a little and disappeared. And there it was in the hole."
Marilyn has been playing golf since 1995 and moved to Summerfield in 2006.
Joann Casciato was the latest women's club player to get her first hole in one, also on No. 9, which occurred April 10.
"It was just a spontaneous game with the gals," she said. "All of us saw it go across the water and lost sight of it by the hole, but it went in.
I'm not a good golfer - it was a miracle. I'll probably never do it again."
Joann has been golfing for 15 years and moved to Summerfield three years ago.
"It's the best place to live," she said.
