Curves moves across 99W from Willowbrook Center to King City Plaza
New owner Jennifer Kitchell is excited about new location and is offering grand opening specials
Tigard Curves' new owner, Jennifer Kitchell, used to struggle with her weight and tried diet after diet with only short-term results.
"I was a classic yo-yo dieter," Kitchell admitted. "The weight would go down and then come back up."
Kitchell decided to take on a more holistic approach that included fitness, which led her to becoming a member at Tigard Curves. She worked out three to five days a week for 30 minutes, met with a coach once a week, and used online meal planning to eat "real" food.
"I could tell this was going to be different right away," Kitchell professed. "Not only was I losing weight, but I was feeling stronger and had more energy. Soon I was looking forward to my workouts."
In February of this year, the previous owner of Tigard Curves posted a sign saying she was selling the business. Kitchell was disappointed and worried that the club would close and she'd lose the local Curves program that was finally helping her to get fit.
Kitchell had also been thinking about changing careers and wanted to do something more meaningful with her time. She came up with the idea of buying the Tigard Curves, and after discussing it with her husband and having a lengthy conversation with the previous owner, Kitchell decided to purchase the club.
"The more involved I became in the process, the more excited and natural it felt for me to take on this new business endeavor," Kitchell said. "The timing of this opportunity and how it presented itself really just felt like kismet."
The sale was finalized June 30, and everything in the club was packed up, moved to a new location in King City Plaza and set up over a short weekend. The new club opened for business July 1.
"The response from members has been overwhelmingly positive, and the walk-in traffic for this new location has been fantastic," Kitchell said.
Tigard Curves' official grand opening of its new location will coincide with Curves National Open House, which is the week of Sept. 15-20. Non-members are invited to come in for a complimentary visit and will get 30 days free if they join. Existing members are invited to bring friends in and enjoy daily "me" time activities inside the club.
"The open house is a great opportunity for women in our community to come and see all the great new features, products and programs that Curves now offers," Kitchell said. "We'll also have some great door prizes to give away each day during our open house."
