Portland police hunt for street racers on Marine Drive
The Portland Police Bureau issued 24 citations and eight written warnings during a traffic safety mission focused on speed racing on Sunday, Sept. 9, according to a news release.
Police patrolled Marine Drive and Northeast Airport Way from Kelley Point Park to the eastern city limits during the enforcement mission.
"Officers focused on dangerous driving behaviors in areas reported by community members to be frequented by speed racers," a police spokesman wrote.
During the mission, Jamee Lerenee Bird was arrested for alleged possession of heroin, delivery of heroin, possession of methamphetamine, delivery of methamphetamine and on a warrant for violating parole.
The 25-year-old has four felony convictions and one misdemeanor conviction on her record, according to court documents. Bird told jailers she is without stable housing but lives "here and there."
North Precinct officers say they will return to the area in the future to conduct further traffic safety missions.
