A security guard was injured early Monday morning when a burglary suspect hit the guard with his small pickup while trying to escape after a struggle.
Police said the security guard suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was being treated at a local hospital. The guard's name has not been released.
According to police, North Precinct officers were called at about 5:38 a.m. July 17 to a building in the 8100 block of North Columbia Boulevard after the struggle and crash. The security guard told officers he confronted a man he believed was stealing from the property. The guard and suspect struggled briefly, during which the suspect grabbed a machete and the guard backed away. The suspect got in his pickup and rammed it into the guard.
The suspect was a black or Hispanic man driving a black mid- to late-90s Nissan pickup truck with possible front end damage and no rear license plate. The truck has plywood sheets that extend the length of the pickup bed.
