Forest Grove man walking to work killed by suspected drunk driver
A Forest Grove man walking to work was killed by a suspected drunk driver late Saturday.
The victim is identified as Jonathan Dominguez Esquivel, 22. The preliminary investigation reveals he was walking to his job at Safeway on the road shoulder when he was hit.
The driver, Bethany Lumber, 27, of Beaverton, was arrested and charged with manslaughter in the second degree, driving under the influence of intoxicants and criminal mischief in the second degree.
According to the Forest Grove Police Department, at 10:39 p.m. on March 18, officers and medical crews responded to a report of an auto and pedestrian crash in the 3400 block of Pacific Avenue. First arriving officers found the victim in a ditch with critical injuries.
The victim was transported to Legacy Emanuel Hospital by Life-Flight. Despite extensive life-saving efforts by paramedics with Forest Grove Fire & Rescue, Metro West Ambulance and Life-Flight, the victim was pronounced deceased upon arrival at the Hospital.
Police say they located the suspect vehicle and suspected driver near the scene, approximately 100 yards east of the crash location. A damaged mailbox was also located in the area.
Forest Grove police are being assisted in the investigation by the Washington County Sheriff's Office and the Washington County multi-agency crash team (CART).
