Two injured in SE Portland crash

Two men were injured in a single vehicle crash in Southeast Portland early Sunday, one critically.

The names of the victims were not immediately available.

According to police, at 2:08 a.m. on Aug. 17, East Precinct officers responded to the report of a single vehicle crash on Southeast Holgate Boulevard at 135th Avenue. When officers and medical personnel arrived, they found the vehicle, a white 2000 Ford Econoline van, with two men injured inside.

The driver, a 23-year-old male, was suffering from serious but not life-threatening injuries. The passenger, a 29-year-old male, was suffering from critical injuries that initially were believed to be life-threatening.

Both men were transported to a Portland hospital, where the passenger's condition was upgraded and his injuries are serious but now believed to be non-life-threatening.

The Traffic Division's Major Crash Team responded to conduct the investigation. They learned that the driver was eastbound on Holgate and failed to negotiate a turn in the road and crashed into a block retaining wall on the North side of the street.

Alcohol appears to be a factor in the case, which remains under investigation.
