Pilot survives North Plains crash
The pilot of a small plane that crashed in North Plains on Sunday walked away with minor injuries.
According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the North Plains Gliderport 12:34 p.m. Aug. 10 on a report of a plane crash. The pilot, John Kimmel, 53, of Milwaukie, was the only occupant
When they arrived, deputies learned that Kimmel was attempting take off from the Gliderport when his engine lost power. He attempted to turn the plane around and land back at the Gliderport, but crashed in a neighboring field.
The 1991 RV-3M amateur built single engine fixed wing plane sustained significant damage. However, Kimmel was able to exit the plane on his own power, however. The FAA responded to the scene to follow up on the incident.
