West Linn named state's most family-friendly city

Rankings created by Estately real estate blog

A recent study conducted by the real estate blog Estately confirmed what many residents already believed to be true: West Linn is one of the very best places in to raise a family.

West Linn ranked at the top of Estately’s “20 best cities to raise kids,” edging out Tualatin and Lake Oswego for the number one spot. The rankings were based on ten factors, including youth population, public education, crime rate and housing affordability.

Estately found that West Linn had the lowest crime rate among Oregon’s 20 most populated cities, based on FBI data. West Linn also rated second in public education and ninth in housing affordability.

“I fully agree with the recognition,” City Councilor Jenni Tan said. “We’ve got beautiful parks, lots of classic activities … it’s a great place to raise a family.”

Though West Linn has grown to house more than 25,000 residents, it still carries a “village-like” atmosphere, Tan said.

“The neighborhoods have a really good community feel,” Tan said. “It’s wonderful to see a community that’s so passionate and generous.”

Rounding out the top five on Estately’s list were Tualatin (No. 2), Lake Oswego (No. 3), Redmond (No. 4) and Keizer (No. 5). Gresham ranked at the bottom of the list. For more information on the study, visit blog.estately.com/2014/08/how-family-friendly-are-oregons-20-biggest-cities/.
