• Boston Red Sox legend Johnny Pesky, from Lincoln High, dies in Danvers, Mass., at age 92.
Born in Portland, John Michael Paveskovich was a key infielder for the Red Sox from 1942-54, posting a .307 career batting average. The club retired his No. 6 uniform number in 2008, two years after naming the right-field foul pole at Fenway Park "Pesky's Pole.'
