Portland 85, Atlanta 68

The Blazers improved to 2-0 in summer league play with the win at Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Portland outscored the Hawks 27-17 and maintained control after that, riding forward Jake Layman's 23-poin touting. He was 9 of 14 from the field, including 4 of 5 on 3-pointers.

Starting poing guard Wade Baldwin had 7 points, 10 assists and 8 rebounds in 24 minutes, making 3 of 7 shots from the floor.

Off the bench, recent draft pick Anfernee Simons scored 12 points and hit 4 of 9 field-goal attemps.

The Blazers were 40.5 percent from the field to 33.3 percent for Atlanta (0-2).

Portland center Zach Collins left in the third quarter with a sprained ankle.

Fresno 4, PORTLAND 2

At Merlo Field, Portland suffered its fourth consecutive United Soccer League.

Foster Langsdorf converted a first-half penalty kick for T2. 

Marvin Loria added on a 28-yard free kick in the 79th minute.

Portland is 8-8-2 (26 points) and seventh in the USL Western Conference. Fresno (6-7-7) is ninth with 25 points.

Juan Pablo Caffa had two goals and one assist for the visitors. Caffa assisted on a Christian Chaney goal in the 21st minute and converted a PK in the 24th minute to give Fresno a 2-0 lead.

Langsdorf's penalty score came after a handball foul in the 36th minute, and the halftime score was 2-1.

Fresno took command with goals from Rony Argueta in the 51st minute and a perfectly placed free kick from Caffa in the 65th minute.  

A crowd of 1,121 saw the first of three consecutive T2 home matches. Next is a 7 p.m. Saturday game at Merlo against Swope Park Rangers, the USL affiliate of Sporting Kansas City.

HOPS

EUGENE 4, Hillsboro 3

The Emeralds tagged Hops closer Wesley Rodriguez for four runs in the ninth inning to win the second of a three-game series in Eugene.

Hillsboro defeated Eugene, 5-1, on Saturday.

Prior to Sunday's loss, Rodriguez had allowed one earned run in 10 2/3 innings and converted three saves.

Hillsboro (16-8) used a delayed steal and an RBI single by catcher Andy Yerzy to score two runs in the third. Yerzy's .337 batting average is the team high.

A double from Francis Martinez in the sixth added a run.

Hops starter Adrian Del Moral allowed two hits and struck out three in five innings. The 19-year-old has a 4.66 ERA in five starts.

Eugene (9-15) and Hillsboro will wrap up their Northwest League series at 7 p.m. Monday at PK Park.
