OREGON SPORTS HISTORY/Sergio Garcia lends hand in local golf clinic; Fire going out; Drexler goes into Hall of Fame

• The Oregon Ducks begin football practice on Aug. 11 with quarterback Joey Harrington's image on buildings from New York to Portland and the team picked to win the Pac-10 title after earning a co-championship and going 10-2 the previous year. The Ducks are ranked No. 7 in the nation.

• Sergio Garcia, 21, puts on a youth golf clinic sponsored by Adidas, one day after the Fred Meyer Challenge at The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club in Aloha. Among the selected and lucky participants is Vincent Johnson, the 15-year-old David Douglas High sophomore-to-be who finished second in the state tournament as a freshman.

• The WNBA Portland Fire finish the season under coach Linda Hargrove with 10 straight losses, the last one 67-58 at the Rose Garden to the Los Angeles Sparks before an announced crowd of 10,795 (franchise record) that was said to be closer to 6,000. Portland's record drops to 11-21, and Hargove is scheduled to meet with Blazers president Bob Whitsitt for her postseason evaluation.

• The Oregon Sports Hall of Fame inducts Clyde Drexler, Marshall Holman, Hershel McGriff, Rudy Chapa, Liz Downing and Royce McDaniel during ceremonies at the Portland Center for the Performing Arts.
