Friday, June 6

Thunder: The Arizona Rattlers pay a visit to Moda Center for an Arena Football League game against Portland, 7 p.m.

Prep baseball: The Oregon School Activities Association state championship games for Class 3A and 2A/1A are set for Volcanoes Stadium in Keizer.

Prep softball: The OSAA state title games for 3A and 2A/1A are at the OSU Softball Complex in Corvallis.

Rose City Showcase: The annual tournament features top youth teams and players from the Northwest and around the country. Opening night’s action is at Lewis & Clark College, with four Super 17 games. At 6 p.m., Simply Fundamental of Nevada plays Anthony Davis Select of Idaho. The 7:10 p.m. game pits Superior Athletes of California against Seattle Rotary Select. At 8:20 p.m., Team FAST of Oregon meets D.R.I.V.E. Elite of Canada. And at 9:30 p.m., NorthWest Xpress (Oregon-Washington) collides with the Oregon-based I-5 Elite.

Saturday, June 7

Thorns: Portland returns to Providence Park for a National Women’s Soccer League match with the Western New York Flash, 7 p.m.

Timbers: Portland’s MLS team goes to Real Salt Lake. Kickoff is 7 p.m. PT (Root Sports).

Rose City Showcase: The three-day tourney, which has 234 AAU boys and girls teams from ages 9-and-under to 17-and-under, continues at Lewis & Clark College, Beaverton Hoop YMCA, Beaverton Courts and Eastmoreland Courts. June 8, 1958: Stan Brock (age 56), former Jesuit High star who went on to play as an offensive lineman at Colorado and in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints and San Diego Chargers, then coached in the Arena Football League, including a stint as head coach of the Portland Forest Dragons, and as head coach at Army.

June 6, 1965: Cam Neely (age 49), former Memorial Cup champion with the Portland Winterhawks right wing who starred in the NHL from 1983-96, mostly with the Boston Bruins.
