Mannion to start; Vaz, Enger could be ready for Ducks
CORVALLIS Sean Mannion was at the controls as expected during Oregon States practice session Monday.
Mannion will start at quarterback Saturday when the 16th-ranked Beavers (8-2 overall, 6-2 Pac-12) play host to fifth-ranked Oregon (10-1, 7-1) in the 116th renewal of the Civil War at noon in Reser Stadium.
Backup QB Cody Vaz was dressed and participated in some drills but said he is not yet ready to go physically after spraining an ankle Nov. 10 at Stanford.
Its much better than it was after it happened, said Vaz, as he threw passes after practice. Im getting to the point where I think Ill be able to play.
Guard Grant Enger, who also sprained an ankle against Stanford, did not practice Monday but coaches hope he will progress enough to start against the Ducks. If not, Derek Nielsen will get the nod in his place.
Receiver Brandin Cooks (concussion) and linebacker D.J. Alexander (ribs) practiced and appear ready to go for Saturdays showdown.
