Bits & Pieces: 'Grimm' guys on stage

MITCHELLThe stars of NBC thriller “Grimm,” a fairy tale/cop procedural show filmed in Portland, have become well-known around the city, spending ample time here while working. Now, two of the actors will

be starring in a 2014-15 Portland Center Stage production.

Silas Weir Mitchell (Monroe on “Grimm”) and Sasha Roiz (Capt. Sean Renard) will appear in the season finale, Richard Greenberg’s play “Three Days of Rain” in May-June 2015.

“ ‘Grimm’ is filmed in Portland, and has been a welcome addition to the city’s creative landscape,” says Chris Coleman, PCS artistic director. “Since they arrived in town, both Sasha and Silas have been visitors to Portland Center Stage, and so I’ve come to know them. We’ve been waiting for the right timing, and the right project, to work together. And the planets — also known as (the show’s) shooting schedule and our season calendar — finally aligned.”

ROIZIn “Three Days of Rain,” three New Yorkers grapple with the puzzles of family history and the nature of creativity. Greenberg’s play deals with time and perception, with actors playing their own parents, meaning that Mitchell will play the Walker and Ned roles and Roiz the Pip and Theo roles. A third actor will be named later.

Cup pitch play

Care to join fellow national-side fans for some “football” action on the World Cup pitch, while consuming some grog and grub?

The best place, again, to watch World Cup games, June 12 through July 13, likely will be Kells Irish Restaurant and Pub, 112 S.W. Second Ave., and Kells Brew Pub, 210 N.W. 21st Ave. Kells is the official U.S. soccer bar and is going to show every game live from Brazil, installing extra televisions and serving specialty food items for World Cup fans during their particular game.

Pageant review

From Pamplin Media Group’s Ellen Spitaleri:

Although Emma Pelett, Miss Oregon USA 2014 (featured in May 29 Tribune), did not make the top 20 at the Miss USA Pageant on Sunday, June 8, the 25-year-old Portland native did seem to be enjoying herself on stage at that event.

Pelett could be seen, in a royal blue evening gown and Miss Oregon sash, just behind co-host Giuliana Rancic, as Rancic announced that Nia Sanchez, Miss Nevada USA, had won the coveted title of Miss USA.

Sanchez, wearing an eye-catching scarlet gown, had tears in her eyes as she was crowned and then took her first walk onstage as Miss USA 2014. The 24-year-old dark-haired beauty holds a fourth-degree black belt in the Korean martial art taekwondo and used that experience to answer her onstage question regarding the upswing in sexual assaults on young women on college campuses.

All women should know how to defend themselves, she said, after noting that colleges don’t like to acknowledge the number of assaults, since college leaders don’t want to develop a negative reputation.
