Musicians band together for kids' eyesight

The Sunday, Jan. 19, 20/20 Celebration of Sight and Sound will bring award-winning blues, R&B and soul acts together with the community for a good time and a good cause.

The 1190 KEX Kids Fund and the Oregon City Lions Club, with the help of radio and television personality Paul Linnman and his wife, Vicki, provide eyeglasses and hearing aids to children of struggling families. Proceeds from the event will go to the charity.

Now in its fourth year, the event got its start when singer Rae Gordon was turning 40 and chose to hold a benefit instead of a birthday party. She was drawn to make the 1190 KEX Kids Fund the beneficiary after learning more and recognizing herself in the stories.

As a child, Gordon had problems keeping up in school due to hearing and vision issues. Her trouble seeing the blackboard and a family at home struggling financially kept her behind not only in academics, but in life.
