This will come as no surprise as anyone who watches high school sports in Clackamas County, but there's a ton of great athletes out there who are ready to compete at the next level.

Athletes from Lake Oswego, West Linn and Milwaukie high schools helped prove that point on Wednesday, Feb. 2, when they signed their national letters of intent.

Lake Oswego

The Lakers saw 13 athletes ink letters of intent, including four from the girls lacrosse team, three from the football team, two from the girls soccer team and one each from the girls swim, boys soccer, boys lacrosse and equestrian teams.

• Olivia Andersen, girls swimming, University of California-Davis

• Ethan Hecht, boys lacrosse, Robert Morris University

• Noah Joseph, boys soccer, Indiana University

• Hannah Sievert, equestrian, Delaware State University

Milwaukie

At Milwaukie, senior Jake Cooper signed his national letter of intent to continue his education and football career at Portland State University.

Cooper is a 6-foot-5, 265-pound offensive and defensive lineman who was named a Cowapa League all-star player each of the last two years. Cooper received a full scholarship to Portland State, which projects him to become an offensive lineman/center during his career.

West Linn

At West Linn, senior Chase Harmon signed his national letter of intent to continue his education and football career at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Harmon is a 6-foot-1, 178-pound quarterback — the son of Charles "Chip" and Wendy Harmon — who rolls into MIT after earning the highest possible ACT composite score of 36.

Fewer than half of 1% of all students who take the ACT earn a top score. In the U.S. high school graduating class of 2021, only 4,055 out of 1.29 million students who took the ACT earned a top composite score of 36.
