So far, it's been so far, so good for the Lake Oswego football team.

Maybe, so very good is more accurate.

The Lakers won their third straight game on Friday, Sept. 17, rolling past South Medford 41-14 at Lake Oswego High School. With the win — the Lakers' third straight — Lake Oswego improved to 3-0 on the season while the Panthers lost for the third straight time and fell to 0-3 for the season.

The Lakers blasted out to a 28-0 lead in the second quarter, expanded their lead to 34 points in the third period and coasted home from there.

Lake Oswego's scores came on: an 8-yard run out of the wildcat formation by senior running back Gabe Olvera; a 19-yard run by Olvera on fourth down; a 44-yard Olvera run that capped the first quarter at 21-0; an 80-yard run by Calvin Macy; a 55-yard pass from senior quarterback Jack Layne to Olvera; and finally, a 41-yard TD pass to senior tight end Dylan Layne — Jack Layne's twin brother — for the final 41-14 margin.

For the game, Olvera rushed seven times for 106 yards and three TDs and also caught five passes for 89 yards and another TD. Macy carried five times for 98 yards and one score. Jack Layne completed 11 of 19 passes for 159 yards and two TDs. And Dylan Layne added three catches for 56 yards and one TD.

Next up, the Lakers play Sheldon at Sheldon High School at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24. The Irish enter the game at 3-0, most recently beating Newberg 42-28.
