First of two construction projects set to begin Monday on B Avenue

Stormwater upgrades mark the beginning of partnership project

Businesses will remain open on B Avenue even as construction begins next week on the first of two separate water projects, the Lake Oswego-Tigard Partnership has announced.

The first project, a stormwater system upgrade, is set to begin Monday and is slated to take three to four months. Construction work will take place on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in compliance with city-approved construction hours — much to the relief of the partnership and of B Avenue businesses, said the partnership's communications director, Jane Heisler.

Heisler said that in order to make sure construction and installation go as smoothly as possible, the partnership would work closely with the Lake Oswego Chamber of Commerce. Representatives will also continue to canvass B Avenue businesses to make sure they know what to expect during construction.

"We will be providing window decals indicating that businesses are 'Open for Business' during construction," Heisler said, as well as listing every B Avenue business on the project's website.

During construction, only one block and one intersection of B Avenue will be closed to vehicle traffic and street parking at a time. Pedestrian access and access to businesses will be maintained, and traffic detours will be in place.

A second project — installation of a new pipeline under B Avenue between State Street and Ninth Street — will begin in early 2015 and is expected to take up to three weeks per block. Both projects are expected to be completed by spring 2015.
