LO Reads events begin Feb. 1


Mark your calendar for 11 a.m. Feb. 1, for that is when tickets will be given out at the library for the Kim Stafford’s talk about his father, William Stafford, and his works.

The event takes place Feb. 13 and is preceded by a dessert buffet at 6 p.m. The tickets are free, however a limited amount of them are available.

Also beginning Feb. 1, you can participate in the Find Big Foot scavenger hunt at the library.

Lewis & Clark College is also hosting several William Stafford celebrations.

The Aubrey R. Watzek Library on the Lewis & Clark campus will be exhibiting a selection of photographs, manuscripts, books and artifacts from the William Stafford Archives Jan. 21 through Feb. 28. The exhibit showcases materials from each period of Stafford’s life and career.

Of particular note is a selection from Stafford’s 16,000 photographs that feature his family, friends and poets from around the world curated by Kirsten Rian. The exhibit is free.

A symposium titled “You Must Revise Your Life: Stafford at 100, a Celebration and Reassessment” will be held Feb. 7 and 8 in Smith Hall on campus. The schedule of events includes panel discussions and poetry readings, musical performances, receptions and more. The symposium is free and open to the public. A special William Stafford Centennial Celebration featuring Li-Young Lee and Ted Kooser with appearances by Kim Stafford and Paulann Petersen will be held at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 7 at Newmark Theater, 1111 SW Broadway in Portland. The event is hosted by Matthew Dickman and celebrates the life and work of a writer whose influence is still felt today. The evening will include readings from nationally known poets and local authors, as well as archival footage.
