Drop-N-Play lets kids play while parents work

Faith Thomas opens new childcare center in Lake Oswego

by: REVIEW, TIDINGS PHOTO: VERN UYETAKE - Faith Thomas and her 4-year-old daughter, Patience, demonstrate how much fun kids can have at Drop-N-Play, a new childcare center in Lake Oswego.

Faith Thomas wishes she could have had a place to drop off her children while she was working in marketing.

That is why she has opened Drop-N-Play in Lake Oswego. Based on her own experience, Thomas is now offering parents a good place to leave their children, and they can leave them at almost any time.

“I was in marketing, my husband, Joseph, was an engineer, and we were traveling a lot and working odd hours,” Thomas said.

Now, Thomas not only has a good place for her own two young children but other children from the ages of 6 weeks old to 12 years as well. When you tour Drop-N-Play it is hard to imagine that Thomas forgot a single thing for her new venture.

The center is fully staffed with all childcare workers holding either bachelor’s or master’s degrees in education.

The activity stations offered are amazing — arts and crafts, Legos, music, dress-up, plus a slide, seesaw, lots of toys and even a little castle a child can crawl into to do some reading. Almost all of the toys are educational.

“We’re considered a sensory-based center,” Thomas said. “Kids are using their hands, their fingers and their minds. It is not a chaotic place where kids jump around a lot. We’re 2,000 square feet, so it’s surprisingly large.”

The food lives up to everything else at Drop-N-Play. All meals are organic and catered, and gluten-free and dairy-free foods are offered.

Kids are too busy at Drop-N-Play to watch much TV, but Friday night is the time for movies and pizza.

“We provide a safe, fun atmosphere,” Thomas said. “It is somewhere parents will want to leave their children. We meet or exceed all state requirements. It is strictly drop in, so nobody has to stick around.”

Although Drop-N-Play has only been open for a few weeks, she was happy to note, “We’ve already got a lot of regulars.”

For Thomas, Lake Oswego is only the beginning for Drop-N-Play.

“We want to take our process to other locations,” she said.
