Employee stabbed at Hillsboro Taco Bell
Officers with the Hillsboro Police Department are investigating after an employee at a Hillsboro Taco Bell was stabbed early Friday morning, Jan. 18.
Around 2:40 a.m., officers received a report that a man had forced his way into the closed dining room area of the restaurant, located at 977 S.W. Oak St., and employees had barricaded themselves in the office, according to Hillsboro Police spokesman Sgt. Eric Bunday.
"He broke out a window to get through to them in the office," Bunday said.
According to Bunday, the suspect then stabbed an employee in the wrist, causing a minor injury.
The man then entered a walk-in freezer where officers found him with apparent self-inflicted stab wounds, including one to the neck, Bunday said.
Officers used a Taser to eventually disarm the man and he was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital.
The employee has been treated and released, but the suspect remains in the hospital and has not been charged, Bunday said. The suspect's name has not been released as the investigation is ongoing.
In an unrelated incident, Bunday said an attempted car break-in was thwarted outside the restaurant while police were on the scene.
Bunday said a handful of local media outlets were at the scene of the stabbing early Friday morning to cover the story. As officers were responding to the incident, a man reportedly walked up to a KGW news vehicle and attempted to break into it.
"This is why I wear a uniform when I go to these things," said Bunday, who regularly works with reporters on local police stories. "I was actually talking to one of the reporters ... and he walked up behind us and just walked right over to the KGW car and opened up the passenger door and tried to get in. I just turned around and detained him at that point."
The man, whose name has also not yet been released, is charged with unlawful entry in a motor vehicle and a probation violation.
This story will be updated with more information as it becomes available.
