The driver had to be taken to the hospital after sustaining a broken nose and severe head trauma

Law enforcement said a local Lyft driver was brutally attacked by one of his riders after dropping him off in Gresham.

The driver, Parham Rabiee, who works for the popular on-demand transport company, suffered severe head injuries during the attack, including a broken nose and other bruises, police said.

Rabiee picked up two male passengers around 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, near Southeast Johnson Creek Boulevard and Interstate 205. The driver said the two appeared to be around 20 years old, were acting erratically and getting upset with the music he was playing.

According to Rabiee, they called him racial slurs.

Rabiee dropped the two off at Shari's Café at the Oregon Trail Shopping Center, 1979 E. Burnside St. in Gresham. He got out of the car to help the passengers, who he said were both intoxicated, when the attack began.

The man riding in the front seat hit him in the head, and then kicked him when Rabiee fell to the ground, police said. Rabiee was taken to a nearby hospital, but was later transferred to Legacy Emanuel because of the head trauma.

Gresham Police said there is no indication why the assault began, and it is not being investigated as a bias crime at this time. The two riders left in a dark-colored car before officers arrived.

The suspect of the attack is described as a white man between 18 and 20 years old, with short dark brown hair, about 5-foot-8, weighing between 130 and 140 pounds.
