Gresham man derailed by DUII arrest

He drove 600 feet down the MAX line before getting stuck on tracks

Butch Pearl Stuckey, 44, of Portland was arrested by Gresham police officers Thursday morning, Feb. 27, after he drove an SUV 600 feet down a MAX track before getting stuck on the track's inner rail.

Officers responded to a 9-1-1 call at 8 a.m. regarding a white Ford Explorer stuck on the eastbound MAX track, east of the intersection of Southeast Stark Street and East Burnside Street.

Police say Stuckey was under the influence of drugs and he was placed under arrest.

Eastbound MAX service was interrupted for approximately 30 minutes. The SUV was towed away, and the track did not appear to be damaged. The SUV does not belong to Stuckey and police are still attempting to determine the rightful owner.

Stuckey was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center, charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants (drugs), reckless driving and possession and distribution of a controlled substance (methamphetamine).
