New hall, waterfall, welcome all

Photo Credit: NEWS-TIMES PHOTOS: CHASE ALLGOOD - Residents of the new Cascade Hall at Pacific University come and go on the main stairwell, in front of the bottom section of a four-story photo mural that inspired the residence halls name. Jim Flory, a photography professor at Pacific, shot the photo of one of the north-side waterfalls in Silver Falls State Park near Silverton, Oregon. The recently completed hall represents a move away from the newer pod-style arrangements at many universities and back to old-style, shared rooms that will encourage students to engage more in community experiences at the halls many recreational and study areas, as well as at the nearby University Center. An estimated 565 new undergraduates began classes at Pacifics Forest Grove campus Monday, bringing total enrollment there to more than 1,700.
