Accused jail employee faces trial in December

Jill Curry, the Washington County Jail employee accused of having sex with an inmate, stood quietly Monday morning during a short pretrial hearing in Washington County Circuit Court.

The 38-year-old Curry, wearing a sparkly T-shirt, olive green cropped pants and flip-flops, stood beside her attorney, Leonard Kovak Jr., as Circuit Judge Janelle Wipper set Curry’s trial date for Dec. 10.

Curry faces 28 charges, including six felonies, for custodial sexual misconduct in the first degree. The remaining misdemeanor charges are for two counts of identity theft and further charges of official misconduct. She has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Since Curry’s arrest July 16 and her arraignment July 28, further details have arisen that shed light on illegal activities at the jail.

On Aug. 19, a second jail employee, Brett Robinson, 32, was arrested and charged with six felony offenses for having sex with the same 25-year-old inmate. Neither of the women knew about the other’s activities.

Robinson will appear in court Friday, Aug. 29.

Both women worked in the maximum-security unit. Cameras within the jail corroborated witness claims of Curry’s activities between May 25 and July 3, when she released the inmate from his cell and took him to a supply closet, closing the door.

The inmate was one of the witnesses who testified to a Washington County grand jury prior to Curry’s arraignment.
