TriMet will detour ten bus lines at Clackamas Town Center during the busy Thanksgiving shopping weekend to avoid severe delays.
Trimet spokeswoman Roberta Altstadt said the transit agency will enact the detours because buses have been caught up in the malls parking lot traffic in years past.
Last year, some buses and riders were trapped in the congestion for up to two hours. That had a ripple effect leading to delays throughout the bus lines that serve the shopping center, Altstadt said.
On Friday, Nov. 23 through Sunday, Nov. 25, from 1 p.m. through 7 p.m., buses will not serve the Clackamas Town Center Transit Center (stop ID 13248) and the Clackamas Town Center Mall stops (stop IDs 12921 and 12922) near the movie theater.
Instead of driving through the parking lot, the buses will travel on Monterey Avenue and serve a temporary stop on Monterey near the entrance by the movie theater. Temporary stops will be posted in both directions. To view an interactive map of the area, go to ride.trimet.org.
The affected bus lines are: 28, 29, 30, 31, 71, 72, 79, 152, 155 and 156.
To connect bus riders with the MAX Green Line, after serving the temporary stop on Monterey the buses will continue on to the SE Fuller Road MAX Station, about a five-to-10-minute ride. Riders who normally transfer from the MAX to buses at the Clackamas Town Center Transit Center can catch the buses at the Fuller Road Station or get off at the Clackamas Town Center Transit Center and walk about a half mile to the temporary stop on Monterey Avenue.
Signs will be posted at the Clackamas Town Center Transit Center directing waiting riders to the temporary bus stop. Signs will also be up at the Fuller Road Station as well alerting riders to the change. Train operators will also make announcements at the two stops.
