Accusations against Larry Coates not sexually related, police say

The band teacher at Whitford Middle School was arrested on April 3 after a female student accused him of twice pulling her WASHINGTON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE  - Larry Coates, the band teacher at Whitford Middle school, was arrested on two counts of harassment of a female student and lodged at the Washington County Jail.

Beaverton police arrested Larry Dale Courtier Coates, 41, on two accusations of harassment of an eighth-grader. He was lodged in the Washington County Jail.

Officer Mike Rowe, spokesman for the Beaverton Police Department, said the harassment involved “unwanted physical contact” but was not considered sexual in any way.

Maureen Wheeler, spokeswoman for the Beaverton School District, said Coates is on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.
